Realmless rulesets: overview

Choose the same ruleset and faction as the friends you intend to quest, run dungeons or raid with. Normal, PvP and Roleplaying are available at launch; Hardcore arrives later. Characters on different rulesets cannot form ordinary dungeon or raid groups.

Normal suits players who want to choose when to engage in PvP. PvP adds open-world conflict in contested territory. Roleplaying offers a separate community for roleplay. You cannot freely switch a character between these choices; starting on another ruleset normally means creating another character.

The PvP ruleset restricts character creation to one faction per player. Normal, Roleplaying and Hardcore permit characters from both factions. Set your preferred online language under Escape, Options, Languages and Social; the account-wide preference has a 24-hour change cooldown.

Key mechanics and preparation

  • Language preference helps match players within a ruleset.
  • Collections and Legacy Points span non-Hardcore rulesets.
  • A dead Hardcore character can transfer out to another ruleset.
  • Progress from other rulesets does not enter Hardcore.

Launch details

  • Hardcore release date
  • Detailed population-layer rules
  • Exact faction-balance measures for PvP
