Professions in WoW Forever
Choose two primary professions for your character, then learn Cooking, Fishing and First Aid alongside them. Gathering supplies your crafts; crafting turns those materials into equipment, consumables and campsite tools.
Choose a pair you will use
Alchemy and Herbalism supply consumables. Mining feeds both Blacksmithing and Engineering. Skinning supplies Leatherworking. Tailoring uses looted cloth, so it leaves room for Enchanting or a gathering profession.
Two gathering trades are also a practical choice while leveling: you can sell materials to pay for training and buy finished equipment. You do not need to craft every upgrade yourself.

Start early, craft in small batches
Learn your professions near the beginning of your character’s journey. Keep useful materials while questing, train the next rank before reaching a skill cap, and make equipment when it is still an upgrade. Vendor supplies such as thread, spices and vials are usually cheaper at a supplier than on the Auction House.
A yellow recipe may fail to award a skill point. Buy and craft in small batches near the end of a skill range rather than treating an estimated shopping list as a guaranteed cost.
Camping changes what your profession can do
Cooking creates the campfire. Other trades add buffs, vendors, repairs and workstations. The first profession campsite recipes unlock at skill 20; later objects use blueprints, including dungeon drops. A player can use another player’s station without taking that profession.
For example, an Engineer can provide repairs, while a Leatherworker can place a rested-experience tent. A shared camp is useful before a dungeon and for crafting away from a city.

Plan your next upgrade
Use the gear lists to compare crafted equipment with dungeon and quest rewards. Look at the materials required, whether you will use the item now, and whether the recipe will remain useful to your character. Paying for a recipe you will use repeatedly can make more sense than buying a one-off item.
