WOW FOREVER · PLAYER REFERENCE

Holy Priest guide

Holy offers direct tank healing and party recovery. Binding Heal heals both caster and target, Prayer of Mending responds to incoming damage, and Litany of Light rewards a varied casting sequence.

Beta gameplay guide · Updated 12 October 2026

Rotation and opener

Position where you can reach the tank and the party. Apply Prayer of Mending before sustained incoming damage and keep Renew on targets that will use its full duration.

Combat priority

  1. Renew

Apply to a player taking continuing damage, particularly when you must move. Avoid refreshing a healthy duration merely to keep a button busy.

  2. Prayer of Mending

Send it into a situation with recurring damage that can make use of its healing. A quiet moment with no incoming damage is a poor reason to press it automatically.

  3. Greater Heal

Use when substantial single-target healing is required and the cast can finish in time. Begin early enough to meet the incoming hit rather than reacting only after the tank is nearly dead.

  4. Flash Heal

Choose for an urgent injury that cannot wait. Its speed is the reason to use it; repeated small injuries do not all require your fast expensive option.

  5. Binding Heal

Use when you and another player both need healing. It can keep the tank supported while recovering from your own damage.

  6. Heal

Use as the ordinary less urgent direct-heal choice. Alternate eligible casts to benefit from Litany of Light rather than repeatedly using the same spell out of habit.

Multiple targets and dungeon pulls

Use Prayer of Healing for meaningful party-wide damage. Look at how many players need the heal before committing its Mana cost.

Prayer of Mending and Renew help cover recurring damage while you position for a larger party heal. They are not a reason to delay a cast that is needed to prevent a death.

When only one player is hurt, use a direct heal instead of turning every event into an area-healing sequence. Spend your next global on the real injury.

Resources and cooldowns

Choose a spell by the size and timing of incoming damage. Litany of Light encourages alternating supported spells; a smaller efficient heal can be the right follow-up rather than repeating the largest cast.

  • Inner Focus belongs with a large useful cast, such as Greater Heal or Prayer of Healing. Spending it on a small unnecessary top-up wastes the opportunity.
  • If Spirit of Redemption is allocated, continue healing during its window after death. Keep normal healing bindings usable in that state rather than treating the death as an immediate end to your assignment.
  • Dispel Magic and Cure Disease remain part of Holy gameplay. If an effect keeps causing damage or suppressing the tank's performance, removing it can be more useful than another direct heal.

Specialization mechanics and group play

Litany of Light makes alternating spells a practical Mana-management decision. Choose different eligible heals that match the damage, rather than alternating merely to satisfy a pattern while players die.

Inspiration gives critical healing a tank-support interaction. Maintain sensible effective healing and coordinate who covers the tank; chasing crits into a full-health target wastes resources.

Spiritual Guidance makes Spirit a throughput contributor as well as a regeneration stat when the talent is allocated. The actual build matters when comparing two items.

In PvP, stay near cover, keep Renew available during movement, and do not expose yourself to an interrupt for a trivial heal. Psychic Scream can create recovery space, but its surroundings determine whether it is safe.

Stats and equipment decisions

Priority / equipmentHow to use it
Healing PowerImproves the healing done by your cast choices and can reduce how many casts are needed.
MP5Useful during sustained group healing because it is not dependent on a complete break from casting.
SpiritSupports regeneration and gains additional value from Spiritual Guidance when present in the later allocation.
Intellect / Critical StrikeIntellect adds reserve. Crit can help Inspiration but also overheal, so prioritize actual healing needs over a large critical-heal display.

Enchanting equipment

For inexpensive leveling preparation, Enchant Bracer - Inferior Stamina and Enchant Chest - Inferior Stamina add survival to equipment you expect to keep. Prioritize an important weapon or role-specific item upgrade before spending heavily on temporary armor.

Consumables and preparation

Lesser Cleric's Elixir

Prepare this healer-focused elixir for a dungeon where stronger healing reduces the number of casts you need.

Minor Mana Oil

Use the Mana recovery weapon oil for a long healing session; apply it before entering combat.

Minor Wizard Oil

An alternative weapon oil when spell throughput matters more than recovery; compare the actual bonuses instead of applying both.

Briny Seafood Stew

Prepare your food buff before pulling. Eat and drink while the group is recovering, rather than waiting until the next pull has started.

Healing Potion

Carry an emergency self-heal. Healing yourself without spending a cast can leave that cast available for the tank.

Triage Tea

Use between pulls to recover Mana. Tell the tank when you are drinking so the group does not begin a dangerous pull without its healer.

Useful profession pairings

Tailoring supplies cloth gear, while Enchanting turns unneeded drops into materials and improves the equipment you keep. This is a practical self-sufficient caster pairing.

Alchemy with Herbalism supplies your own elixirs and recovery consumables. It is particularly useful when repeated healing or quest pulls consume expensive Mana supplies.

Learn Cooking and First Aid as well. A bandage can recover Health without spending Mana when you have a safe window; do not channel it while damage is repeatedly interrupting it.

Races and racial abilities

Undead offers Will of the Forsaken and the Forever recovery utility of Cannibalize; for Shadow, Touch of the Grave adds another damage interaction. These are specific benefits rather than an unsupported universal racial ranking.

Priest race choice also affects the race-specific spell toolkit. Compare the spells relevant to your healing or damage role alongside the faction you intend to play.

Use the available Forever race combinations, including Skyborne traditions where applicable. Do not add a TBC-only race because an older Priest guide recommended it.

Leveling and solo play

  1. Use a strong wand to finish quest enemies after the necessary opening damage. This reduces drinking and gives your regeneration a chance to recover between fights.
  2. Holy can heal leveling dungeons without forcing the player into a damage rotation. Renew continuing damage, choose a direct heal for the tank, and retain Mana for a second unexpected target.
  3. Take the complete displayed beta allocation for the current cap. Use the later build as a destination, not as a claim that all endgame healing tools are already learned.
  4. Keep food, drink and a recovery potion before entering a dungeon. Ask for a brief drink when necessary; running into the next pull empty creates a much longer recovery if the group dies.

Useful macros

Mouseover heal

#showtooltip Flash Heal
/cast [@mouseover,help,nodead][help,nodead][@player] Flash Heal

Heal the friendly unit beneath the cursor without losing your selected target. Change the spell name for another direct heal; the macro does not choose the correct heal for you.

Mouseover friendly dispel

#showtooltip Dispel Magic
/cast [@mouseover,help,nodead][help,nodead][@player] Dispel Magic

Removes a friendly debuff from the hovered player. It is intentionally friendly-only so a mistaken mouseover does not spend a global dispelling the enemy.

Strengths and weaknesses

Strengths

  • Broad direct-healing toolkit
  • Can heal self and ally together
  • Strong party recovery options

Limitations

  • Cast-time vulnerability
  • Overhealing drains mana
  • Needs positioning for party heals

Common mistakes

  • Standing outside healing range
  • Using a large cast for a tiny deficit
  • Forgetting your own health while healing another player
