Restoration Shaman guide

Restoration heals with direct casts, Chain Heal and Riptide. Water Shield supports mana recovery, and totems remain a major part of the group’s utility.

Beta gameplay guide · Updated 12 October 2026

Rotation and opener

Place the agreed totem set, keep Water Shield active and apply Riptide to the tank or another player taking sustained damage.

Combat priority

  1. Water Shield

Keep Water Shield running. Restore it during a quiet global rather than waiting until the next healing emergency.

  2. Riptide

Use Riptide on players receiving repeated damage once unlocked. Its instant cast lets you contribute while repositioning.

  3. Healing Wave

Use Healing Wave for a substantial single-target heal when there is enough time for the cast. Start before the next predictable hit instead of reacting only to an almost empty health bar.

  4. Lesser Healing Wave

Use Lesser Healing Wave when the target needs a faster direct response. Repeated small emergency casts are a sign to plan earlier for the next damage event.

  5. Chain Heal

Use Chain Heal when several injured players are close enough for its jumps. Choose an injured primary target; use a direct heal when only one ally needs healing.

  6. Nature’s Swiftness

Pair Nature’s Swiftness with the direct heal needed to prevent a death. It is an emergency tool, not a fixed button to press every time its cooldown ends.

Multiple targets and dungeon pulls

Chain Heal works when injured players are close enough for the bounces. Choose a central injured target rather than automatically targeting the tank every time.

After a group damage event, stabilize the players in immediate danger first, then use efficient group healing. A nearly full target should not receive the first emergency cast.

Resources and cooldowns

Water Shield and Mana Tide belong in the recovery plan. Dropping Mana Tide after everyone has left its range wastes the opportunity. Use a direct heal when only one ally needs help instead of paying for unused jumps.

  • Use Mana Tide while the group can receive meaningful Mana, before everyone has stopped casting completely. Place it within the party’s actual fighting position.
  • Save Nature’s Swiftness for an otherwise lethal health deficit. Riptide supplies instant healing while moving but does not replace a planned large direct heal on the tank.

Specialization mechanics and group play

Mana Tide is a group resource cooldown. Drop it while nearby Mana users can benefit; using it after the party has already scattered wastes part of its purpose.

Ancestral Healing supports a tank assignment. Stay aware of tank coverage without repeatedly overhealing just to produce a proc while another player is dying.

Stats and equipment decisions

Priority / equipmentHow to use it
Healing powerImproves the value of your direct heals and healing-over-time spells. Choose this for output when your Mana supply is comfortable.
IntellectA larger Mana reserve helps you complete longer encounters and provides more room for emergency direct healing.
Mana regenerationValue sustained recovery when repeated group healing empties your bar before the encounter ends. Reduce avoidable overhealing before replacing every output item with regeneration.

Enchanting equipment

For inexpensive leveling preparation, Enchant Bracer - Inferior Stamina and Enchant Chest - Inferior Stamina add survival to equipment you expect to keep. Prioritize an important weapon or role-specific item upgrade before spending heavily on temporary armor.

Consumables and preparation

Healing Potion

Carry a level-appropriate Healing Potion for an emergency. Use it before the next unavoidable hit kills you rather than waiting for a healer who is already occupied.

Mana Potion

Use the appropriate learned-level version for resource recovery. Higher-level consumables are preparation for later content, not a requirement for an early beta character.

Heavy Silk Bandage

A First Aid recovery option for characters who meet its requirement. Use it during a safe break between attacks; incoming damage interrupts bandaging.

Useful profession pairings

Engineering offers active tools for dangerous pulls and PvP. Bind the devices you actually carry; selecting the profession without using its consumables supplies no practical benefit.

Alchemy supports a regular potion supply, while Herbalism funds that supply during leveling. Buy only the consumables you can use at your present level.

Herbalism · Alchemy · Skinning · Leatherworking · Recipe database · Camping buffs

Races and racial abilities

Dwarf provides an Alliance Shaman option. Stoneform is especially practical when a physical defensive response matters.

Horde choices include Orc, Tauren, Troll and Windshaper Skyborne. Tauren War Stomp supports emergency control; Troll Berserking can be aligned with a sustained casting window.

Leveling and solo play

  1. Enhancement supports a weapon-based solo route. Keep the imbue active and place totems where several fights will occur; rebuilding the full set for every nearly dead enemy wastes Mana.
  2. Carry an Intellect-oriented healing set if you plan to heal leveling dungeons. Use Healing Wave for predictable damage and Lesser Healing Wave for urgent hits instead of insisting on one spell for every situation.
