Balance deals spell damage in Moonkin Form. Moonfire and Insect Swarm maintain pressure while Eclipse changes the choice between Wrath and Starfire.
Beta gameplay guide · Updated 12 October 2026
Rotation and opener
Enter Moonkin Form when learned and establish Moonfire and Insect Swarm on a durable target.
Combat priority
Moonkin Form
Enter Moonkin Form before sustained damage once the talent is available. Keep your party close enough to benefit from its critical-strike aura; another Druid’s equivalent party aura does not make this benefit stack.
Moonfire
Apply Moonfire to a durable target, then refresh near expiry instead of repeatedly paying for the initial hit. On a target already about to die, finish with direct damage rather than buying an entire unused periodic effect.
Insect Swarm
Keep Insect Swarm active alongside Moonfire when the target will live through the ticks. Nature’s Splendor increases its duration, so follow the actual duration shown by your debuff instead of using a Classic timer.
Starfire
Use Starfire to spend Eclipse benefits. Nature’s Grace helps shorten a cast after a critical strike; avoid cancelling that cast merely to move a few steps when the encounter allows you to finish it.
Wrath
Use Wrath as the repeatable cast between stronger Starfire opportunities. Improved Wrath reduces cast time and mana cost, which makes it especially important before your full Eclipse/Moonkin toolkit is unlocked.
Multiple targets and dungeon pulls
For a small pull, put Moonfire and Insect Swarm on targets that will survive their duration, then focus direct casts into the tank’s current target. Spreading damage onto uncollected enemies can create a threat problem before the pull is stable.
Hurricane is the dedicated area-damage channel. Place it where the enemies will remain, wait for the tank to gather them, and stop the channel when movement or survival requires it. Roots are control, not permission to pull an entire room.
Resources and cooldowns
Moonkin Form supplies a group critical-strike benefit that overlaps with Leader of the Pack. Plan mana recovery and avoid casting extra damage-over-time spells when the current effects will finish the enemy.
Use Innervate when you can recover mana rather than saving it until you are unable to cast. Discuss healer needs before a raid pull; a healer running dry during unavoidable damage can be a more valuable recipient.
Barkskin is a survival button. Use it while dealing with incoming damage so that finishing a cast does not become a lethal commitment. Move out of ground effects even if that costs a cast.
Specialization mechanics and group play
Eclipse rewards using both Wrath and Starfire. The talent tooltip in the embedded build is the reference for its actual trigger and effect; a fixed “spam one spell forever” plan throws away the second spell’s role.
Vengeance improves critical-strike damage, Nature’s Majesty improves critical chance, and Nature’s Grace improves the next cast after a critical strike. These talents work together, but they do not make critical chance a substitute for sufficient spell damage.
Nature’s Reach improves casting reach. Start at a safe distance, leave a clear path for the tank, and relocate during instant casts where possible. An instant spell buys movement time; it does not make a long detour free.
A useful pull sequence is a precast Wrath, your periodic effects, then direct casts. Finish short solo fights economically: paying for two full-duration debuffs on a nearly dead creature can cause more drinking than damage gained.

PvP talent choices and play
Improved Entangling Roots can help make room for a cast. Change form or heal when survival requires it; remaining in a damage cycle while being focused is not a useful trade.
Recommended gear & upgrades
Forever beta equipment options. Compare level requirements and sources; these are not final launch rankings.
Prioritize a meaningful caster-weapon upgrade and compare the spell damage on both weapon and armor. A weapon’s melee damage is not the reason to equip it for Balance.
Spell hit
Hit improves reliability against higher-level enemies. Its value depends on the target level; do not use a raid-boss gearing target as a requirement for a low-level dungeon.
Critical strike
Supports Vengeance and Nature’s Grace. Compare it alongside spell damage rather than assuming the biggest critical-strike item is automatically best.
Intellect and mana recovery
Intellect enlarges the casting reserve. Recovery matters most when fights are long enough that running out of mana removes entire casts. Keep a spare mana-heavy set for demanding dungeon sessions.
Use a level-appropriate mana potion during a long fight while there is room in your mana pool for the recovery. Do not spend the cooldown at full mana.
Healing Potion
Carry a level-appropriate healing potion for an emergency when casting a heal would expose you to another hit.
Elixir of Wisdom
An early-level Intellect option for a larger casting reserve. Buy a small supply for dungeon runs before investing in more expensive endgame supplies.
Elixir of Greater Intellect
A later Intellect option when your level and the available recipe support it. It is a mana-reserve choice, not a replacement for spell-damage gear.
Useful profession pairings
Skinning and Leatherworking: turn the leather collected while questing into usable leather equipment. Compare each craft’s actual spell damage, healing or physical stats with the gear you already own before spending materials.
Herbalism and Alchemy: gather herbs along your quest route and keep a supply of mana and useful elixirs. The benefit is repeatable consumable access rather than an assumed exclusive profession damage bonus.
First Aid: keep bandages and healing supplies available even though you can heal. A recovery item can conserve the mana needed for shapeshifting or the next dungeon pull.
Night Elf: Elune’s Light is an offensive critical-strike cooldown; Shadowmeld is useful for avoiding an unwanted fight. Choose the racial for its practical tools rather than treating the original Classic racial package as unchanged.
Tauren: War Stomp gives a close-range emergency stun. Use it to interrupt pressure long enough to reposition or heal; Endurance adds survivability.
Skyborne: Wind Blessed supplies passive haste, while Elemental Insight helps against elemental enemies. High Order offers Read Ley Line for recovery; Windshaper offers Skysight for movement. Faction choice changes those tools.
Leveling and solo play
Before the full Balance tree, Improved Wrath gives a direct benefit to the spell you repeatedly cast. Pull from range, use Entangling Roots to create distance, and stop adding damage-over-time effects when the next direct spell will end the fight.
Take Insect Swarm and Nature’s Splendor as your talent progression reaches them. The displayed leveling build provides the final allocation; spend points in legal row order rather than attempting to buy its deeper talents immediately.
Keep a caster weapon current. Spell damage on a usable weapon can improve each kill, while a large melee-damage number does little for a casting rotation. Save healing mana by keeping unwanted enemies rooted or avoiding an extra pull.
Innervates a friendly mouseover, then your friendly target, otherwise yourself. Check the intended recipient before using it during raid recovery.
