Marksmanship Hunter guide

Marksmanship focuses on ranged weapon attacks and deliberate shot timing. Sniper Shot expands the priority, while Lone Wolf offers a petless option and Rapid Recuperation supports mana management.

Beta gameplay guide · Updated 12 October 2026

Rotation and opener

Use Aspect of the Hawk, Hunter’s Mark and Trueshot Aura when learned. Position so that you can keep shooting without standing in an upcoming mechanic.

Combat priority

  1. Trueshot Aura

Keep Trueshot Aura active when talented. Check group coverage after deaths and travel rather than discovering it missing at the end of a boss.

  2. Hunter’s Mark

Apply Hunter’s Mark before the pull to the enemy that matters. Repeatedly marking short-lived trash delays actual attacks.

  3. Serpent Sting

Maintain Serpent Sting on a durable target. Use the instant application while moving when a stationary cast is impossible.

  4. Sniper Shot

Use Sniper Shot when your build unlocks it. Plan a stationary window so the cast completes before you need to dodge.

  5. Aimed Shot

Use Aimed Shot between the important cooldown attacks. Watch Auto Shot timing rather than chaining casts without allowing your weapon to fire.

  6. Auto Shot

Maintain ranged uptime with Auto Shot. Stop a long unnecessary run, turn back toward the enemy, and resume attacking as soon as you are safe.

Multiple targets and dungeon pulls

Multi-Shot provides controlled cleave. Keep the main target selected and inspect what additional enemies are in range before using it.

Volley is a commitment to a stationary channel. Use a grouped, controlled pack rather than starting it while the tank is still gathering enemies.

Resources and cooldowns

Avoid cancelling a shot by moving at the wrong moment. Rapid Recuperation belongs in mana planning; do not assume a short burst sequence can be repeated forever without drinking or another recovery tool.

  • Use Rapid Fire when you can remain stationary and fire continuously. Rapid Recuperation makes the timing relevant to Mana as well as damage.
  • Use Feign Death to recover from excess threat, then wait for the reset before resuming attacks. Immediately firing again can undo the recovery.
  • Use Freezing Trap for planned control and Disengage or positioning tools to restore distance. Do not use Multi-Shot into a target your party has trapped.

Specialization mechanics and group play

Lone Wolf changes the pet decision only when the relevant talent is taken. A petless endgame arrangement should not be imposed on an early leveling build that still benefits from a tanking pet.

Rapid Recuperation gives Rapid Fire a resource interaction. Schedule offensive windows around meaningful target uptime instead of using the cooldown as an answer to every moment of movement.

Stats and equipment decisions

Priority / equipmentHow to use it
Ranged weapon damageCompare the ranged weapon before small armor-stat changes. Aimed Shot and the ordinary shooting cycle make this slot especially important.
Agility / Attack PowerUse ranged damage attributes for sustained output. A melee weapon can supply useful stats, but its physical damage is not your ranged attack damage.
Hit / critical strikeImprove reliable shots and critical damage while accounting for your talent choices. Do not use an unverified endgame percentage as a hard gearing target.
IntellectA useful Mana reserve supports longer shooting windows. Rapid Recuperation is a talent interaction, not a reason to ignore the cost of repeated shots.

Enchanting equipment

For inexpensive leveling preparation, Enchant Bracer - Inferior Stamina and Enchant Chest - Inferior Stamina add survival to equipment you expect to keep. Prioritize an important weapon or role-specific item upgrade before spending heavily on temporary armor.

Consumables and preparation

Healing Potion

Carry a level-appropriate Healing Potion for an emergency. Use it before the next unavoidable hit kills you rather than waiting for a healer who is already occupied.

Mana Potion

Use the appropriate learned-level version for resource recovery. Higher-level consumables are preparation for later content, not a requirement for an early beta character.

Heavy Silk Bandage

A First Aid recovery option for characters who meet its requirement. Use it during a safe break between attacks; incoming damage interrupts bandaging.

Pet food and ammunition

Carry ammunition suitable for your ranged weapon and food your pet can eat. Refill both before leaving town so a long route does not end with an unusable shooting cycle or neglected pet.

Useful profession pairings

Engineering offers active tools for dangerous pulls and PvP. Bind the devices you actually carry; selecting the profession without using its consumables supplies no practical benefit.

Alchemy supports a regular potion supply, while Herbalism funds that supply during leveling. Buy only the consumables you can use at your present level.

Leatherworking provides an equipment crafting route. Compare the finished item with your current gear and material cost before crafting simply because the recipe is available.

Races and racial abilities

Choose a supported Hunter race first: Human and Skyborne expand the Forever options alongside the familiar Hunter races.

For pet-focused play, compare Orc pet benefits with Troll Berserking. For PvP, a defensive or escape racial can be more useful than a small sustained damage advantage.

Leveling and solo play

  1. Beast Mastery is a practical solo route because the pet holds enemies while you shoot. Send it onto the next selected enemy only after you have finished the current one and checked the nearby patrols.
  2. Survival leveling uses its melee attacks and traps; Marksmanship rewards positioning and ranged uptime. Keep enough ammunition, food and pet supplies for the route before leaving town.
