Enhancement Shaman guide

Enhancement mixes weapon attacks, Shocks and instant spells from Maelstrom Weapon. Stormstrike anchors the melee cycle, with Rage of the Farseer providing a personal offensive window.

Beta gameplay guide · Updated 12 October 2026

Rotation and opener

Use Windfury Weapon. Place Strength of Earth, Mana Spring, Searing and the assigned Air totem before sustained combat.

Combat priority

  1. Windfury Weapon

Apply Windfury Weapon before combat. Check the imbue after changing weapons; a newly equipped weapon should not enter the next pull unprepared.

  2. Stormstrike

Use Stormstrike during melee uptime. Position behind the enemy and return quickly after mechanics so your main attacks are not delayed by unnecessary movement.

  3. Maelstrom Weapon

At five stacks, use the instant Lightning Bolt for single-target damage. Do not turn a melee damage window into a long hard cast when the proc is not ready.

  4. Flame Shock

Maintain Flame Shock on a durable target. Use the instant cast while repositioning when you cannot reach the enemy for Stormstrike.

  5. Earth Shock

Use Earth Shock when Flame Shock is already running, unless you need the shock for an upcoming interrupt.

  6. Fire Nova

Use Fire Nova when the enemies and your fire setup make it useful. Keep enough resources for the next Stormstrike rather than spending every spare global on expensive spells.

Multiple targets and dungeon pulls

Use the instant Maelstrom cast for Chain Lightning when it can hit a controlled cluster. Check nearby crowd control before choosing the cleave option.

Arrange the fire totem and Fire Nova around the tank’s actual pack position. Reposition with Totemic Projection when the enemies move.

Resources and cooldowns

Track Maelstrom Weapon stacks and avoid wasting a new proc at the cap. Do not hard-cast a spell unnecessarily in melee. Keep enough mana for utility, and reposition totems when the party moves.

  • Use Rage of the Farseer with Stormstrike uptime and useful on-use effects. Finish a forced movement mechanic before activating your personal damage window.
  • Spend a five-stack Maelstrom Weapon proc on Lightning Bolt for a single target, or Chain Lightning for a safe cluster. Do not sit at maximum stacks while repeatedly refreshing an existing shock.
  • Use Totemic Projection to keep the party’s Strength of Earth and assigned Air buffs in range. Keep Earth Shock available for your interrupt assignment.

Specialization mechanics and group play

Rage of the Farseer is your personal offensive window. Combine it with useful on-use effects when you can remain in melee, rather than activating during a forced run.

The totem assignment is part of your job: Strength of Earth, Mana Spring, Searing and the agreed Air totem should be arranged before chasing damage.

Stats and equipment decisions

Priority / equipmentHow to use it
Primary gearing goalFor damage builds, favor attributes that improve your actual attacks; for tanking, retain sufficient health and armor to survive the encounter before trading defenses for threat.
HitHit improves attack reliability. Account for talents and the enemy’s level before assigning a numerical target; a fixed Classic cap should not be treated as a Forever fact.
Critical strikeCritical strikes support damage and relevant talent procs. Compare the benefit with your current weapon and talents rather than treating one stat as universally strongest.

Enchanting equipment

For inexpensive leveling preparation, Enchant Bracer - Inferior Stamina and Enchant Chest - Inferior Stamina add survival to equipment you expect to keep. Prioritize an important weapon or role-specific item upgrade before spending heavily on temporary armor.

Consumables and preparation

Healing Potion

Carry a level-appropriate Healing Potion for an emergency. Use it before the next unavoidable hit kills you rather than waiting for a healer who is already occupied.

Mana Potion

Use the appropriate learned-level version for resource recovery. Higher-level consumables are preparation for later content, not a requirement for an early beta character.

Heavy Silk Bandage

A First Aid recovery option for characters who meet its requirement. Use it during a safe break between attacks; incoming damage interrupts bandaging.

Useful profession pairings

Engineering offers active tools for dangerous pulls and PvP. Bind the devices you actually carry; selecting the profession without using its consumables supplies no practical benefit.

Alchemy supports a regular potion supply, while Herbalism funds that supply during leveling. Buy only the consumables you can use at your present level.

Herbalism · Alchemy · Skinning · Leatherworking · Recipe database · Camping buffs

Races and racial abilities

Dwarf provides an Alliance Shaman option. Stoneform is especially practical when a physical defensive response matters.

Horde choices include Orc, Tauren, Troll and Windshaper Skyborne. Tauren War Stomp supports emergency control; Troll Berserking can be aligned with a sustained casting window.

Leveling and solo play

  1. Enhancement supports a weapon-based solo route. Keep the imbue active and place totems where several fights will occur; rebuilding the full set for every nearly dead enemy wastes Mana.
  2. Carry an Intellect-oriented healing set if you plan to heal leveling dungeons. Use Healing Wave for predictable damage and Lesser Healing Wave for urgent hits instead of insisting on one spell for every situation.

Useful macros

Focus Earth Shock

#showtooltip Earth Shock
/cast [@focus,harm,nodead][] Earth Shock

Interrupts a hostile focus while you retain your damage target. Keep the shock available when assigned a dangerous enemy cast.

Strengths and weaknesses

Limitations

  • Melee mechanics and casting demands
  • Stack tracking
  • Mana and totem management

Common mistakes

  • Letting Maelstrom stacks sit at the cap
  • Using the burst cooldown before losing melee range
