Beast Mastery splits damage between the Hunter and companions. Pet positioning and uptime matter as much as the Hunter’s own shots; Summon Hawk adds another companion mechanic to track.
Beta gameplay guide · Updated 12 October 2026
Rotation and opener
Use Aspect of the Hawk, mark the target and send your pet in along a safe path. Apply your chosen group aura if your build has it.
Combat priority
Hunter’s Mark
Mark the durable kill target before combat. Send the pet after the tank establishes the pull; a pet running ahead can bring extra enemies into the fight.
Summon Hawk
Keep the available hawks active, up to the stated two-hawk limit. Use the summon during a window when you can continue attacking rather than forgetting it after the opener.
Serpent Sting
Maintain Serpent Sting on enemies that live long enough for its damage over time. Skip an expensive refresh on an enemy about to die.
Intimidation
Use the new damage component, but account for its control effect. Saving it to stop an enemy reaching the healer can matter more than an immediate damage gain.
Aimed Shot
Use Aimed Shot while stationary and preserve the rhythm of your ordinary ranged attacks. Moving halfway through a cast costs time without producing damage.
Auto Shot
Keep Auto Shot firing between active abilities. Move only as far as needed to avoid a mechanic, then resume shooting immediately.
Multiple targets and dungeon pulls
Use Multi-Shot only when its additional targets are safe. A shot that breaks a trap or Sap creates more trouble than its damage is worth.
Keep the pet on a selected target while switching your own ranged attacks when necessary. Recall it before an unsafe chase or a pack reset.
Resources and cooldowns
Do not send the pet through a second pack. A dead pet removes an important part of your damage, so watch its health and reposition it out of harmful effects. Manage mana without delaying recovery until the next pull has already started.
Use Bestial Wrath after the pet reaches its target. Activating it while the pet is travelling wastes the offensive window.
Pair Rapid Fire with stationary ranged uptime. Complete movement first so the cooldown is spent shooting rather than chasing.
Use Intimidation deliberately: its damage is useful, but its control can also stop an enemy reaching the healer. Keep Feign Death ready for a dangerous threat mistake.
Specialization mechanics and group play
The pet is an active part of your damage and survival plan. Feed it, heal it between pulls, and bind both attack and follow instead of relying on its default aggression.
Bestial Wrath works best with the pet already beside the enemy. Activating it while the pet is travelling wastes part of the damage window.

1 rank · Requires Intimidation
PvP talent choices and play
Intimidation provides a controlled stun window. Coordinate the pet’s target with your own attacks, use traps to create distance and avoid leaving your companion on an enemy that your team needs to control.
Recommended gear & upgrades
Forever beta equipment options. Compare level requirements and sources; these are not final launch rankings.
Carry a level-appropriate Healing Potion for an emergency. Use it before the next unavoidable hit kills you rather than waiting for a healer who is already occupied.
Mana Potion
Use the appropriate learned-level version for resource recovery. Higher-level consumables are preparation for later content, not a requirement for an early beta character.
Heavy Silk Bandage
A First Aid recovery option for characters who meet its requirement. Use it during a safe break between attacks; incoming damage interrupts bandaging.
Pet food and ammunition
Carry ammunition suitable for your ranged weapon and food your pet can eat. Refill both before leaving town so a long route does not end with an unusable shooting cycle or neglected pet.
Useful profession pairings
Engineering offers active tools for dangerous pulls and PvP. Bind the devices you actually carry; selecting the profession without using its consumables supplies no practical benefit.
Alchemy supports a regular potion supply, while Herbalism funds that supply during leveling. Buy only the consumables you can use at your present level.
Leatherworking provides an equipment crafting route. Compare the finished item with your current gear and material cost before crafting simply because the recipe is available.
Choose a supported Hunter race first: Human and Skyborne expand the Forever options alongside the familiar Hunter races.
For pet-focused play, compare Orc pet benefits with Troll Berserking. For PvP, a defensive or escape racial can be more useful than a small sustained damage advantage.
Leveling and solo play
Your pet is central to Beast Mastery gameplay. Send it to engage enemies while you attack from range, and use Mend Pet when necessary. Keep your pet's abilities and training updated as you level. Against difficult enemies, allow your pet to establish threat before committing to heavy damage.
Beast Mastery is a practical solo route because the pet holds enemies while you shoot. Send it onto the next selected enemy only after you have finished the current one and checked the nearby patrols.
Survival leveling uses its melee attacks and traps; Marksmanship rewards positioning and ranged uptime. Keep enough ammunition, food and pet supplies for the route before leaving town.
Press normally to send the pet to your target; hold Shift to recall it. Recall before an unsafe chase or a pack reset.
Feign Death
#showtooltip Feign Death
/cast Feign Death
Keeps your threat recovery on a direct bind. Give the reset time to register before resuming damage.
